Kathmandu: US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, is set to visit Nepal on Friday for a two-day visit. This marks the first visit by a senior US official to Nepal since CPN-UML chair KP Oli became the Prime Minister last month.

Verma, a key figure in President Joe Biden's administration, will discuss various aspects of Nepal-US relations, review ongoing cooperation, and explore new areas for collaboration during his visit. He will hold meetings with senior government officials, development professionals, and business leaders in Nepal to discuss shared priorities, including economic development, women’s empowerment, energy, and strengthening people-to-people ties.

In addition to Nepal, Verma will also visit India as part of his trip. Notably, he has been given special assignments by the Biden administration, including his recent appointment by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken as a special representative for Ukraine’s economic recovery.

Joining Verma in his visit to Nepal will be John Podesta, President Biden's senior adviser on international climate policy, and David Turk, the US Deputy Secretary of Energy.
